So, when I disabled this standard under the Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter and re-enabled DHCP, the Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet adapter (built into the Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display) connected, obtained DHCP, and has been working for a week now without any issues. This standard is supported in Cisco 3650, 3850, and 9000 Series switches. For example, Cisco 3560 Series switches (or lower-end / older switches) do not support this standard. Almost no consumer-grade Ethernet switches support this standard, and not even all Cisco enterprise-class switches support it. However, the Ethernet switch that the Ethernet adapter supporting this standard is connected to must also support this standard in order for this feature to work. This is a relatively new standard that reserves the Ethernet bandwidth for latency / jitter sensitive audio/video traffic to provide low-latency and low-jitter medium for that traffic. I would say that if you intend to use ethernet from the dock and/or may use a mac with it, pass on purchase until this gets solved.I think I finally found the fix for this issue. Driver is made by Taiwanese company, not Chinese so it should be fine right?Īt the end of the day, the new driver still has the same issue even after you backdoor your Mac to install it. You can workaround the issue by dropping the connection down to 100Mb in your hardware settings, which sucks pretty hard in 2020. In practice, it works for about 2-5 mins. The driver works initially then completely dies under load hanging all of your connections until you reboot. Razer released a special MacOS driver that is a PITA to install, you basically have to accept a bunch of warnings telling you not to install it and then deal with additional popups when you reboot.
For those of you considering using the Razer Core X Chroma, the unit ships with an integrated ethernet port AX88179 that does not work on MacOS which is something that they specifically marketed the product towards.
